Computer Use in the Library

Computer Use Policy

Academic use will take priority when computers use are at a premium. Viewing websites that may be considered offensive to other library users is strictly forbidden and will result in revocation of library privileges. Word processing, programming, or other applications are not available on library computers. Tampering with library computers in any way will result in revocation of library privileges.

Saving, burning, or downloading files, including music or other media files, is subject to copyright laws.

Community Borrowers are allowed 2 hours of use each day.

The computers are for research purposes and top priority will be given to users who are performing class related assignments and research. Library staff reserve the right to ask patrons who are not doing scholarly work to relinquish the computer they are using. Community Borrowers are only allowed 2 hours of use each day.

Computers are provided for patrons to access electronic resources available both in the Library and through the Internet.

Computers may not be used for commercial gain or for private profit. This includes online betting, online auctions, etc.

Viewing websites that may be considered offensive to other library users is strictly forbidden and will result in revocation of library privileges. Patrons doing scholarly research on subjects which may be offensive to nearby persons or which may violate these rules will need to consult with Library staff before beginning research at any Internet station.

Internet access is a privilege, not a right, and as such can be withdrawn from those who use it irresponsibly.

Users may not attempt to change or modify hardware, or software configurations or install software on the Library's workstations. Tampering with library computers such as attempting to damage computer equipment or software or cause degradation of system performance will result in revocation of library privileges.

One patron may not use more than one computer concurrently.

There is a fee for printing - $.10 per page for black and white and $1.00 for color. In order to print it is necessary to have a PVC Student ID. Money may be added to the ID at the Equitrac Pay Station located near the west entrance of the Library.

 
 

Laptops Available for Checkout!

Laptop Checkout Policies

The PVC Library adheres to the MCCD Computer Resources Standards which have been established for campus computer users.

Laptops are now available for use in the Library - with limits. They can only be checked out to a PVC student with a valid PVC ID and no fines on their record. The check out period is for 2-hours and is library use only (no exceptions!)

The student must read over the Laptop Check Out Terms and sign the log sheet when checking out a laptop.

The computers are for research purposes and do not have word processing.

The student will be held responsible for any damage to the laptop. A maximum fee of $2,500.00 will be posted to the student's record to cover any damages.
