Excerpt from The First Chapter, Vol. 1, No. 4 - September 23, 1985: Designing the ground-lifting ceremony has already secured the participation of a number of local dignitaries, The Pointe's hot air balloon and - The Wrangler's tents. Contests will begin this week to identify students. wanting to participate in the - activities by either giving a speech during the ceremony, writing a guest newspaper column, creating a poem for the ceremony program, or acting as host/hostess for the event. NVEC faculty and staff will select- the winning student entries in late October. NVEC day classes will be dismissed for the occasion and all NVEC and SCC faculty - and staff are encouraged to participate.
Post Ceremony from The First Chapter, Vol. 1, No. 10, December 16, 1985: The ceremonies marked the beginning of construction for NVEC's 170,000-square-foot facilities on 89.36 acres at the southeast corner of Union Hills Drive and 32nd Street. Earth-moving equipment was moved on to the property Monday, December 9, 1985, to begin site grading and drainage work. Actual building construction is slated to begin on February 24, 1986.
