Using the Web for Health Information

While there is much good information to be found on the open web, be sure to carefully evaluate the sources you intend to share with others. For a full list of questions to ask about health-related website, consult this detailed guide from the National Institutes of Health. Here are some brief questions you'll absolutely want to ask yourself:

  • Who funds the website? Are they recommending a particular product because they sell it?

  • Does the website identify the medical and scientific evidence that supports the material presented on the site?

  • What's the purpose of the website? Check the "About Us" page to find out.

  • When was the information last updated? Medical information must be current - not more than five years old.
