Common terms vs. MeSH
Compare the database search results in
Look at the Search Results (the numbers of articles and citations retrieved.
1. Go to
2. Enter a keyword or phrase.
3. Read the description(s) and identify the relevant MeSH term.
4. You should use both common and MeSh term connected with "OR" when conducting database searches*.
* OR is one of the Boolean Search Operators.
(PVCC > Library > A to Z List of eResources > MEDLINE) and click on advanced search.
2. Go to MeSH 2017 at the top and enter your keyword(s).
3. Check the box next to the suggested MeSH term if any.
4. If more MeSH needs to be added, click on Browse Additional Terms on the bottom.
5. Search MeSH 2017 for an additional keyword.
6. Select AND and click on Search Database.
7. Go to Advanced Search and select the desired type of study in Clinical Queries based on your PICO.
8. Click on Search on the bottom right.
9. Check Liked Full Text and select desired publication dates (For example, 2012-2017)
