Checkout Policies

📚 Borrowing Library Materials

We encourage you to check out library materials from our collection. We check out books, graphic novels, manga, DVDs, puzzles, board games, educational toys, and culture passes. Before checking out, read about your options as a library patron.

Checking Out Materials

  • Students, Staff, and Faculty: Up to 20 items at one time, including 5 DVD/Blu‑ray and 1 culture pass.
  • Community Borrowers: Up to 10 items, including 5 DVD/Blu‑ray and 1 culture pass.

Returning Materials

Please return library materials on time. Items not returned in their original condition may be charged a replacement fee. Library users with overdue materials will receive an email notification to their Maricopa email account.

Return locations:

  • Return all items to the library during operating hours. See current hours.
  • Return BOOKS ONLY (no media or technology) to:
    • 📍 Book drop in the E‑Building hallway
    • 📍 Book drop outside the A‑Building, near the flagpoles

Renewing Materials

Patrons can renew their library materials by:

Library Conduct & Community Standards

🌟 Buxton Library Community Standards

The Buxton Library is a shared space for study, research, instruction, and computer use. To ensure all patrons have a peaceful experience, please follow these guidelines. Thank you for doing your part to maintain our community standards.

  • 📘 Student academic work takes precedence over all other use of these facilities.
  • 📞 Phone calls are allowed, except in and around the Quiet Area. Disruptive calls may be asked to move outside.
  • 🐾 Onlyservice animals are allowed in the Library.
  • 🚭 The use of tobacco, including E‑Cigarettes, is prohibited on MCCCD property.
  • 🤝 Be respectful of the library community. Avoid disruptive, intimidating, hostile, or offensive behavior.
  • 🎧 Use headphones for audio/video and keep the volume low.
  • 🪑 Please refrain from sitting on tables or placing feet on furniture.
  • 📚 Destroying or defacing library items is strictly prohibited. (A.R.S. 13‑1602)
  • 👕 Patrons must wear shoes, shirts, and attire appropriate for a public place.
  • 😴 Short naps are okay, but camping/loitering is prohibited. (A.R.S. 13‑2905)
  • 👶 Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult and never left unsupervised. 
  • ⚔️ Weapons are strictly prohibited on MCCCD property. (ARS §13‑105.11, 13‑105.13, 13‑105.17, 13‑3101.7)
  • 🥤 Food and drink are allowed, but please avoid spills and clean up after yourself.
  • 🚫 Food delivery directly to the Library is prohibited.
  • 🎒 Keep belongings with you at all times. The Library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Library staff are authorized to interpret and apply these standards. Uncooperative patrons may be asked to leave, and College Police may be contacted if necessary. Questions or concerns? Contact us atlibrary@paradisevalley.edu.

Buxton Library Classroom Guidelines

Buxton Library Classroom Guidelines

The Buxton Library classroom is a dedicated space designed to support information literacy instruction and one‑time educational activities. This space aligns with the library’s mission to foster learning and student success across disciplines.

📅 Room Availability

  • Library Instruction in a Credit Course: Available for scheduled sessions with a Librarian during credit courses that include information literacy instruction. Faculty may reserve the room for classes requiring research support or library‑related academic activities.
  • Educational Student Events (Hosted by Campus Partners): May be reserved for workshops, student success initiatives, and educational events that align with the college’s mission and enhance academic or career development.
  • Drop‑in Student Availability: Open for study groups, individual studying, practice speech sessions, and related student needs.

🚫 Room Unavailability

  • Club Meetings: Student or faculty club meetings should use alternative campus spaces.
  • Committee Meetings: College or department committees must utilize other conference rooms or facilities.
  • Monthly Scheduled Staff Meetings: Recurring internal staff meetings are not permitted in the classroom.

The Buxton Library reserves the right to prioritize reservations for events and sessions directly tied to student instruction, learning outcomes, and the academic mission of the college.

Study Rooms

Buxton Library Study Rooms

Library study rooms are for the exclusive use of current PVCC students and are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Study rooms are for study purposes only and are not to be used for lounging or storing belongings. Group study rooms are reserved for two or more students. If a group requires a study room with only one occupant, that occupant will be asked to relocate.

  • Three small study rooms: Two people or fewer
  • Five large study rooms: Two or more people

  • DVD/Blu‑Ray Players

🎒 Unattended Belongings

For your safety and security, please keep personal belongings with you at all times while in the Library. The Library cannot accept liability for lost or stolen items. Any unattended belongings will be handed over to College Police at the end of each day.

⏰ Closing Procedures

Closing procedures begin 15 minutes before the stated closing time. Please wrap up any projects on computers, and begin to pack up/clean up your area.

Noise

Noise & Cellphone Guidelines

The Library encourages student collaboration and group discussion. Except for the Quiet Zone, a conversational volume is appropriate in the remaining areas of the Library, including group study rooms.

Quiet Area

The Quiet Area is the silent zone of the Library, designated for those who need a quiet place to study. Conversations are not permitted, phones must be set to vibrate, and all other sounds must be muted.

Important: Study rooms near the Quiet Area are not soundproof. Please lower your voice to avoid disturbing others.

Cellphone Use

Phone calls are allowed in the Library, except in and around the Quiet Area. If a call becomes disruptive, you may be asked to take your call outside of the Library.

Public Access Computer

Public Access Computer Guidelines

The designated public access computer is available for use by members of the public who are not community borrowers. Please follow these guidelines to ensure fair and accessible use for all patrons.

⏱️ Usage Limits

  • Each patron may use the computer for a maximum of 2 hours per day.
  • Once a session is complete, please promptly vacate the computer to allow others to use it.

🖨️ Printing Limitations

  • B&W printing is restricted to 20 pages per day per individual.

Becoming a Community Borrower

Consider signing up as a Community Borrower to unlock extended access to resources and services.
