General Education Learning Outcomes @ PVCC: Cocurricular Assessment

Our definition

PVCC students have the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning experiences through curricular and cocurricular programs. Curricular learning experiences are offered within academic courses and are reflected on academic transcripts. Cocurricular learning experiences enhance learning and provide opportunities for further exploration, critical thinking, application of academic concepts, personal development, leadership, and/or well-being. Cocurricular learning experiences complement students’ curricular work and promote positive connections among their peers and with faculty, student service specialists, program directors, and/or other college professionals. Students may exercise greater levels of self-direction and freedom since they may choose which cocurricular activities to engage in and to what extent they are involved.

Assessing Cocurricular Activities

To help measure achievement of student learning outcomes, learning facilitators are encouraged to use the Template for Assessment for Cocurricular Learning and the GEA Rubric packet to create a customized tool for designing and assessing cocurricular learning experiences.
