NUR172 - Nursing Theory and Science II

Utilization of Nurse of the Future competencies to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe, quality patient care across the wellness-illness continuum in selected medical-surgical and mental health patients.

Course Competencies

1. Patient-Centered Care: Apply the nursing process and problem-solving strategies when providing culturally congruent nursing care to medical-surgical adult patients and patients with mental health disorders. (I)

2. Professionalism: Demonstrate professional behaviors consistent with legal and ethical guidelines. (II)

3. Leadership: Recognize strategies to improve time management, including prioritization and delegation in the delivery of patient care. (III)

4. System-Based Practice: Recognize the resources available within microsystems. (IV)

5. Informatics and Technology: Utilizes elements of technology and information management to enhance care provided to the adult patient population. (V)

6. Communication: Apply therapeutic communication techniques and caring behaviors with mental health and adult medical-surgical patients, families and colleagues to promote positive health outcomes. (VI)

7. Teamwork and Collaboration: Participate as a healthcare team member to provide patient/family care. (VII)

8. Safety: Perform selected clinical skills and procedures safely according to established care protocols or plans. (VIII)
