Careers in Social Work

Social Worker - "Careers Working with Infants & Children" Social workers are social service professionals committed to improving the social and behavioral lives of individuals, families, and communities. Social workers help at-risk or overwhelmed individuals to find resources, develop new coping strategies, resolve problems and conflicts, and secure opportunities. Social workers work with individual clients to lessen the impact, and in some cases resolve, unemployment, poverty, drug and alcohol dependency, homelessness, and domestic abuse. Social workers may work with individuals, families, or targeted populations such as prisoners and the elderly.
Social Worker - "Choices Explorer" Social workers counsel and help people to understand and solve personal and social problems. They may work with individuals, families, or other social groups.
Social Workers - "Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center" Social workers help people and assist communities in solving problems. These problems include poverty, racism, discrimination, physical and mental illness, addiction, and abuse. They counsel individuals and families, lead group sessions, research social problems, and develop policy and programs. Social workers are dedicated to empowering people and helping them to preserve their dignity and worth. Approximately 713,200 social workers are employed in the United States. Social workers may also be known as caseworkers.
Social Workers - "Occupational Outlook Handbook" Social workers help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives. Clinical social workers also diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional issues.
