This guide supports any career and career-related classes offered by Paradise Valley Community College. You will need to use your college MEID and password to access some of the resources made available to you. If you are a community member, you will need to access this guide from within the college in order to access these career resources.

Career Counseling Services
- Career Counseling ServicesFor those undecided about their careers or for those interested in learning more about career development and decision making, career counselors offer self-assessments to match interests and personality with appropriate careers, and courses in career planning. Please call (602) 787-6540 for more information or to schedule an appointment with a career counselor. One-hour appointments are available. You are also welcome to drop in. The office is located on the 1st floor of the west side of the Kranitz Student Center (KSC) building.

- Counseling and Professional Development coursesPVCC offers several for-credit Counseling and Professional Development courses designed to assist students in exploring career pathways:
* Learn how to chose a satisfying major and career!
* Learn how to manage your stress or anger!
* Learn how to set goals, improve your study skills, and increase your success in college!
* Learn how to develop personally!
How To Use This Guide
The career planning process involves the following steps:
- Step 1: Self-AssessmentFind out who you are--your strengths, interests, and values. Then map this information to those top 10 or 20 careers and occupations providing the most overlap with your strengths, interests, and values.
- Step 2: Exploration of Career OptionsUse library and Internet resources to learn about your "top 10/20." For each, what is the outlook for employment (shortage or glut of people) in the field? What are the educational requirements? What salary can you expect?
- Step 3: Decision MakingUsing a decision-making tool, identify from your "top 10/20" the three to five careers that you are most interested in. Then learn techniques for even deeper research into these areas including educational pathways. You will emerge with a plan of action to turn your career vision into reality!
- Step 4: Job Search and DevelopmentNow that you've isolated your top career interests, use the resources you've found to identify available jobs in your fields and develop the interviewing and résumé writing skills needed to get hired.
