Buxton Library Student Writing Contest 2016

The Buxton Library wants to build on your enthusiasm for writing. To keep you motivated, we're sponsoring a writing contest. This might also help get you started on your novel for NaNoWriMo (see adjacent box for details.) Prizes for the writing contest include:

  • 1st: $50 Amazon gift card 

  • 2nd: $25 Amazon gift card

  • 3rd: $25 Amazon gift card

We welcome all types of compositions (poems, stories, blog posts, one-act plays, journalism, etc.) Please, keep your word count to 1000 or no more than 5 pages, double-spaced. 

Contest Rules:

To enter the contest, you must abide by and agree to these rules and the decisions of the Buxton Library, which shall be final.

  • All submitted entries need to be original and fully your own work and copyright.

  • A winner will be chosen sometime during the week of Dec. 5-9, 2016, and winner will be notified by phone or email.

  • Only currently registered PVCC students may enter the contest.

  • Only one entry per person.

  • Include your name, phone, and email address with your submission.

Compositions must be submitted to Paula Crossman (email or in person) at the Buxton Library by Nov. 18th

Nanowrimo

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It's a yearly motivational imperative to get aspiring authors writing! 

On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.

Buxton Library Writing Contest Winners Announced!

Ten students submitted entries in our first "Day On Writing" contest. We are pleased to announce this year's winners:
 

First Prize: Gage Castaneda for his story, "The First Step" 

Second Prize: Eric Meza for his poem, "A Hungry Poet: No Mercy"

Third Prize: Nicholas Bratcher for his story, "The PVC Fishing Pole"
 

Students submitted poems, stories, personal essays, etc., and all displayed creativity and originality. Thanks to all who participated. We truly enjoyed reading your work!
